Charity Night

We are holding a charity night to raise funds for Newcastle Vision Support.

The charity night will be held on Saturday 18th February at Fairholme Social Club, Ferguson’s Lane, Benwell, NE15 7PL from 7pm – 11pm. Entry is £3.00 per person and includes a disco, raffle, tombola, a buffet and much more!

If you would like to attend entry tickets are currently on sale from the office. Please call the office on 0191 232 7292 if you would like to purchase tickets. We also encourage you to bring along your family and friends.

Raffle tickets are also available to buy in advance from the office for £1 per strip. If you’re unable to attend the charity night but would like to buy raffle tickets, then please feel free to do so. NVS will keep hold of your tickets and notify you if you win. This is due to all prizes needing to be claimed on the night of the event.

We are sure it will be a fun-filled night, please come along and support if you can!

Happy New Year

Happy New Year!

We hope everyone is well and we’d like to wish everyone a very happy and healthy 2023!

We are holding a coffee afternoon on Wednesday 18th January at 1.30pm in rooms 5 and 6 on the fifth floor at MEA House.

This is in place of our Macular and CU Wednesday groups which don’t run in January. Please feel free to pop along for a cuppa, some sweet treats and a catch up

Merry Christmas

We will be closed from 4pm on Thursday 22nd December until Tuesday 3rd January 2023 for our well earned Christmas break.

If you have any enquiries please leave a message on the answering machine and we will respond in early January.

Thank you again for all of your continued support throughout 2022. We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing you all in 2023.

HRH Queen Elizabeth II

Everyone at Newcastle Vision Support is deeply saddened by the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to The Royal Family.

Newcastle Vision Support will be closed on the day of the state funeral (Monday 19th September) as a mark of respect and to allow our staff and service users to pay their respects.

Cost of Living Crisis- Tyne and Wear Sight Loss Council Event

Do you want to learn about dealing with the cost of living crisis and share your concerns as a blind or partially sighted person?

Current rises in the cost of living are having a bigger impact on blind and partially sighted people. This is when we already face additional, unavoidable costs like taxi journeys, assistive technology and support in the home

.At this event, you will find out how to get advice on benefits and grants you may be entitled to, money saving and budgeting tips. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions and share your concerns. This free event is specifically designed for blind and partially sighted people living in Tyne and Wear.

Date and time: Thursday 25 August 2022, from 10:30am – 1:30pm

• Venue: Mea House, Ground Floor Grand Auditorium, Ellison Place, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, NE1 8XS.

• This event is completely free to attend, and lunch and refreshments will be provided.

• Disabled parking spaces are available close to the venue.

Nathan Davies – 55km Run Challenge

A one of our fantastic volunteers Richard Davies’, son, Nathan Davies, is completing a solo, non-supported ultramarathon to raise money for Newcastle Vision Support.

Nathan’s will be running 55km (34.1 miles) on Saturday 17th September 2022 around his local area.

He is asking you to sponsor him so that Newcastle Vison Support can continue our vital work, helping and supporting those who are visually impaired.

Lisa Charlton

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lisa Charlton on the 5th March 2022.  Lisa was the Chair and valued member of NVS for many years.  As a mark of respect, we will be closing the office on Monday 21st March 2022 to enable people to attend her funeral at West Road crematorium, Newcastle upon Tyne at 12.45pm.  Lisa was an amazing inspiring person who will be missed by all.

Northern Power Grid – Priority Services Membership

Northern Power Grid have launched a Priority Services Membership. Becoming a member will give you access to a freephone telephone number that enables you to speak to the Priority Services team 24/7 and ask them anything regarding your power supply. You will also receive a phone call to check that you’re ok as well as regular updates if there is a power cut. Practical support is also available to you during power cuts. This includes hot drinks, snacks, phone charging facilities and transport to a safe place if required. All services are free and confidential.
