The History group grew from our 150th Anniversary work undertaken by our old Net and Natter group.
The group is lead by a Tutor from Newcastle City Learning and researches the history of the North East. The group is interactive via discussions and its aims are for participants to gain historical knowledge about the North East. It runs on a term by term basis for 10 weeks per term.
The group meets once a week at MEA House on a Tuesday, 2:00pm to 3:45pm.

The following is a paragraph written by the tutor:
Since the commencement of this class in January 2018 a significant learning curve has been achieved. This is due primarily to the willingness to learn, enthusiasm for the subject and the commitment to work together as a solid and binding group to enhance History and its various facets. Currently there are eight learners in the group and it is hoped this may increase in the future.
We have covered many areas ensuring that History comes alive in a positive manner. These include local characters from all walks of life, crime and punishment including profiles of notorious local criminals, medical conditions and their place in Local History, examination of local trades including mining and shipbuilding and schooling from its earliest days. Great discussions have been ensued as a result of rigorous debate, questioning and thorough historical analysis.
Other areas have been planned for the future and it is hoped that learners will continue to gain extended knowledge and stimulation from a subject they enjoy so much.
